3-Sentence Stories: #25

Margaret lay winded at the bottom of the stairs in a crumpled heap. Her eyes watered profusely from the pain in her back, but after a few blinks her vision cleared and she could see the object that had made her trip: a dead, half-chewed mouse.

Miggles peered down at her from the landing with his tail bobbing cheerfully to and fro, and Margaret could have sworn his lips pulled back into a smug, spiteful grin.
